Ever wonder how you can achieved that perfectly blended Instagram makeup guru eye shadow look? Even though we aren’t all makeup gurus, the obvious secret is to Blend! Blend!! BLEND!!! However, after putting on your eye shadow, do you look like you’ve had a rough night on the town or worse yet a raccoon? Well have no fear because this post is all about how to apply eye shadow and finding the right combinations to give you some of the most popular eye shadow looks anyone can try. I’ve run down 6 eye shadow looks to fit most occasions.
Natural
First up is the simple and natural eye makeup look better known as the Natural look. For this look picking colors that either match or compliment your natural skin tone is a key factor.
In order to compliment your natural tone and create a simple eye make look start by priming your lids to maximize color payoff of your favorite eye shadows. I suggest going with a neutral eye shadow palette like Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Eye shadow palette or even the NYX Professional makeup go to palette in Wanderlust for only $7.99.

To achieve the natural look, start by defining the eye by working a color slightly darker than your natural skin tone into the crease of your eye lids. Blend this out then follow up with neutral colors that match or are very close to your natural skin color. Adding a highlight in your inner eye for a bright eye effect is also an option. For this look skipping eyeliner will give the eye a more natural look but you can also opt for a brown liner close to the lash line to give your lashes a fuller look. Finally reach for the mascara –preferably a lengthening mascara and apply to both lower and upper lashes. Try this one from L’Oreal Paris Telescopic lengthening mascara in blackest black.

Classic Glam
Old Hollywood glam is a makeup look that will never go out of style and one of my personal favorites. Creating this look is surprisingly easy as it focuses on a neutral eye and bold defined lips.GET THE LOOK:
To get this eye shadow look, simply apply makeup as you would using the natural look above, add some falsies and opt for a bold and bright lip color. Red is usually a favorite as it serves as a focal point of your face. Add a beauty mark for the perfect old Hollywood glam look.
Smokey Eye
The dreaded bane of my existence, the smokey eye. A simple flick of the wrist is the line between raccoon and human when it comes to this look. So take a deep breath, steady your hands and heart and get this look.

Fall/ Dark
Dark, vampy makeup looks are popular for fall and usually follow a similar color palette. Burgandy, plums, and maybe even a dark blue or green are popular lip colors for this look so keep the eyes neutral to avoid looking like you’ve been playing in mom’s makeup drawer.

To get this look, focus on getting a defined brow because brows and lips are really going to be the focal points on your face.
You can either opt for a liner for a more evening look or skip the liner and add mascara for more of a day time look as pictured above.
